Overview

Tanoor, nestled in the heart of Hoppers Crossing, stands out as a genuine Middle Eastern gem. Located conveniently on Forsyth Road, this restaurant brings authentic flavours and traditional dishes that invite both locals and travellers to experience a taste of Lebanon and beyond.

The menu showcases a thoughtful selection of highlight dishes that balance the rich heritage of Middle Eastern cuisine with a fresh, modern appeal. Noteworthy among these are the Knafeh French Toast and Knafeh String Pastry, both crafted from sweet cheese custard, crushed pistachios, and rose water syrup, paired beautifully with vanilla ice cream. These desserts alone tell a story of finesse and tradition, ideal for those seeking something indulgent yet unique.

Breakfast offerings like the Turkish Big Breakfast and Lebanese Big Breakfast cater to those looking for hearty, well-rounded meals with authentic ingredients. The range extends to mezze plates, including falafel wraps, hummus bi lahme, and the popular Tanoor Special, providing an excellent balance of vegetarian and meat options. Vegetable-rich dishes such as Fatte and Tabouli Plates emphasize freshness, while artisan breads and calzones, like the Cheese and Spinach Calzones, add comforting, satisfying notes to the meal.

Customers often praise Tanoor for its fresh, vibrant ingredients and bold flavours, reflecting the chef’s dedication to quality and authenticity. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, highlighted by subtle Nasheeds playing in the background, which complements the dining experience without overwhelming it. The space is clean and family-friendly, making it a practical choice for those travelling with children or in groups.

One of Tanoor’s strengths is its location—adjacent to a 7-Eleven petrol station—making it an ideal stopover between Melbourne and Geelong. This accessibility combined with a diverse menu of both traditional and modern Middle Eastern dishes positions Tanoor as an accessible yet authentic dining destination.

While the food consistently receives high marks for taste and freshness, some guests have noted that service speed can be improved, especially during busy times. Despite minor hiccups, the hospitality is generally warm and respectful, with staff willing to help guests navigate the menu and provide recommendations.

Ultimately, Tanoor suits those seeking a sincere dive into Middle Eastern cuisine—whether for a relaxed breakfast, a fresh mezze sharing experience, or a fulfilling lunch on the road. Its blend of classic dishes, inviting environment, and thoughtful service make it a standout choice for lovers of authentic Middle Eastern flavours in the Hoppers Crossing area.

The food was really good and full of flavour, and the staff were friendly and efficient. However, the waiting time was quite long — both for getting a table and later for the dessert to arrive. If the service timing improves, it would be a perfect dining experience. Overall, a nice place with great food, just needs a bit more attention to speed.

We stopped here on our way from Melbourne to Geelong and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant. A quick Google search led us here, and it turned out to be a great find. The customer service was fantastic, with staff who were welcoming and attentive. There is a wide variety of food to choose from, and the quality was excellent. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere, with Nasheeds playing in the background without music, adding to the overall experience. The place is clean and well-kept, and it also has neat toilet facilities which is a big plus when traveling with family. It is conveniently located next to a 7-Eleven petrol station, making it a perfect stopover spot on this route. Highly recommended!

Went for breakfast and ordered a Knafeh (string pastry) 2 cheese calzones, one meat and one open cheese. First, the service, or lack of it. The girl was doing something on the touch screen for quite sometime and didn’t bother to acknowledge me or say “Sorry, I wont be long” so I stood there waiting to order. She then sighed and finally asked what I wanted with a manner that made me feel like I was inconveniencing her. After giving my order the wait was 20 ish mins. They do make the Knafeh from scratch so thats fine. When I got home and opened the boxes, I realised I was given the Knafeh French Toast and NOT the string pastry It takes 15 mins to get to Tanoor, there is a 20 min wait for food and 15 min drive home. The food was really good, including the Knafeh French Toast (its served with vanilla ice-cream and syrupy rosewater). So now I need to go back and try again for the Knafeh String Pastry. I will point out that I don’t want the French Toast

Review: Tanoor Bakery – A Hidden Gem of Authentic Middle Eastern Flavour Tanoor Bakery stands out as a true hidden gem, offering some of the most authentic and flavourful Middle Eastern baked goods in the region. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by the warm aroma of freshly baked flatbreads, za’atar, and perfectly spiced meats that immediately set the tone for a genuine cultural experience. Their manakish—especially the za’atar and cheese varieties—are crisped to perfection, with just the right balance of softness and char from the tanoor oven. The meat pies and spinach pastries are equally satisfying, each bite packed with flavour and baked with care. The quality of ingredients is clearly evident, and the preparation feels both traditional and homemade. What sets Tanoor Bakery apart is not just the food, but the friendly, down-to-earth service. Staff are knowledgeable and welcoming, offering recommendations and treating every customer like a regular. Prices are fair, portions generous, and the consistency is impressive. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite, catering for a family gathering, or simply craving a taste of tradition, Tanoor Bakery delivers every time. It's not flashy—but it doesn’t need to be. This is food that speaks for itself. Highly recommended for lovers of authentic Middle Eastern cuisine.
